FAQs

1)      Our company needs some portrait photos; do we have to come into a studio?

a)       We are often shooting on location. We have professional photographic lighting equipment which we bring to your location, and can set up an “on-site” studio or we can use the office environment as the backdrop. You can see examples on our professional Headshot page.

2)      How long will it be before I get my images?

a)       It depends on the individual job. Most photos need processing whether it’s something as simple as cropping or resizing or skin retouching. Some images such as product shots may need more editing and retouching. 24-48 hours is a standard turnaround time on many commercial photography jobs but this can vary.

3)      What is a Commercial Photographer?

a)       As I see it, there are two basic client types for Photography services, families and businesses.  For the sake of clarity here on this web page, I will refer to these two types as “social photographers” and “commercial photographers”.  social photographers work for individuals and families, while Commercial photographers work for companies or other business concerns

4)      I have a team of people I would like headshots for - do you offer group packages?

a)       Yes! If all the headshots are happening at the same location on the same date, there are significant savings we can talk about. I am happy to create custom quotes based on how many people you would like to include.

5)      Do you deliver every image you shoot?

a)       A: No, we do not. We eliminate duplicate images, test shots, missed focused shots, shots with bad expressions and other images that may dilute the overall product delivery. For example, because we shoot with low apertures, sometimes we take a few extra shots to make sure we have the perfect focus. We don’t expect you to have the expertise or the time to zoom into each image to select the one with the sharpest focus, so we spend hours doing that on our end. In another example, candid laughs and emotional tears are some of the best images from the day. Unfortunately, they can also yield some unflattering facial expressions. We might snap a few extras of any of these moments to make sure we have a great shot with the ideal expression for the moment. With our expertise of processing millions of images each year, we may eliminate ones that we feel are duplicates and only deliver the best one

6)      Do you provide the RAW files from my photo session?

a)       A: Each of our packages comes with a full resolution image download. However, we typically do not provide RAW (unprocessed) files from our shoots because we believe in delivering a finished product. In fact, we’re often shooting with the end (post-produced) product in mind. However, on occasion, we may provide RAW images along with our post-produced JPG’s for an additional fee and restrictions.

7)      Consultation

a)       You will give me a brief overview of what is required and I will quote for the job. A good brief will clearly state a description of the finished imagery being sought. Things that might be included are size and type of file, number of images, orientation etc. This allows me to determine the creative, and production requirements, as well as give you an accurate quote.

8)      What are your opening hours?

a)       Due to the nature of the business, I don’t keep regular 9 -5 hours and work when necessary.

9)      Location or studio?

a)       For most commercial photography it will be done on location but if it is product photography this is best done in my studio.

10)   Image use?

a)       We are always updating the blog and website as well as entering competitions and applying for qualifications.

b)      We may, therefore, want to use some of your images for this but you can rest assured we will ask for permission first. We always respect your privacy and if you do not want this that’s absolutely fine.

11)   Image storage?

a)       Because of storage costs and physical space, the images are kept up to 2 weeks after your session.

12)   Copyright?

a)       Under the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988  the Copyright remains with the photographer. This means it is illegal to copy or scan the images without written permission. However, we do offer digital packages should you wish to share your images on a non-commercial basis.

13)   Do I have to make a booking?

a)       Yes. All our bookings are scheduled prior to the shoot at a convenient time and date. This can be done during the initial consultation and we’ll be happy to arrange one for you.

14)   How long does the shoot take?

a)       This is based on the requirements of the photo session type, I charge by the hour so please have a look at my hourly rate.

15)   What happens if I need to cancel, postpone or reschedule my shoot?

a)       I will always try my best to accommodate any changes that may occur and reschedule, I am very aware that things like the weather are completely out of people’s control. Please see our terms of business regarding shoot cancellations that will be in the terms and conditions that are sent with the quote.

16)   After the shoot?

a) I have a secure password-protected Online digital gallery which you can share with your co-workers. This is normally the first stage after the shoot is over – usually within two weeks. In this order, you can choose at leisure in the comfort of your own home which photos you would like.
